Jashpurnagar, Chhattisgarh:
In a heartbreaking incident from the Bagicha block of Jashpur district, the body of a 23-year-old woman, Pratima Bai, was found hanging from a tree just 500 meters from her home in Butunga village. Pratima was the daughter of Nakul Ram, the Sarpanch (village head) of the local gram panchayat.
The discovery has left the entire village in shock, especially as Pratima was preparing for her wedding scheduled for April 29. According to family members, she had been excited about the upcoming ceremony, and there were no visible signs of distress.
On April 5 (Saturday), the entire family had gone to attend the traditional Sarhul festival celebration in Bagicha, leaving Pratima alone at home. When they returned that evening, they found her missing. Despite a thorough search with help from neighbors, she couldn’t be located that night.
Tragically, her lifeless body was discovered the next morning (Sunday), hanging from a Pakri tree not far from the house.
The sudden death has raised many questions. Was it a suicide? Or is there a more sinister story behind it?
The Bagicha police have initiated an investigation and are treating the case with utmost seriousness. “We are examining all possible angles — including suicide, foul play, and any other circumstantial evidence,” said a police official from the team on site.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the village, where residents and family members are still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to uncover the truth.
